i’m sure superman eats his super-foods! how else can he fly and stay so strong and ready for take-off any second?! because he packs his diet with antioxidants, duh!

i’ve done posts previously on my morning smoothie, but haven’t really broken down the benefits and WHY i put what i do in my morning dranks.

mironutrients and anti-oxidants from superfoods are neglected in most people’s diets. simply because people don’t realize how easy it is to actually get them into your diet, easily and all at once! hence the importance of a morning smoothie or green juice.  juiced or blended, you get the benefits!

so here you have it! why and what i put in my blended glass of goodness so hopefully YOU can then embrace the benefits from these superfoods in your daily routine and diet! because building a better you starts from the inside!

with nearly 3 grams of protein, 0 grams of fat per one cup of kale and 2.5 grams of fiber (which alone helps maange blood sugar and makes you feel full) those alone are a win in my book.

it’s packed with vitamin A (which is great for your vision, skin and helping to prevent oral cavity cancers), along with vitamin C (boosting to the immune system, metabolism & overall hydration) and K (helps promote bone health and defends against blood clotting) along with Folate, a B vitamin that’s key for brain development, which is why i like to make sure to get a big dose in first thing in the morning.

the leafy green is jam packed with powerful antioxidants such as carotenoids and flavonoids which also help protect against various cancers.  seriously eat your kale.

and one of the main reasons i included it is it’s just an overall great detox food since it’s filled with sulfer it keeps that liver healthy and functioning properly. which helps keep and move chemicals we encounter through other foods and even in the air, moving right through us!

i could go on and on about how good spinach is for you. i put it in my omelets, stuff it in meatloafs, anything i can use it as a “filler” i will just to get the benefits from it. plus.. PopEye said it helps me grow my muscklessss!

there’s a dozen different flavonoid compounds in this leaf that are powerful anti-inflammatory agents.  inflammation plays a role in cuasing a variety of diseases, so keeping that down alone is a great benefit.

the antixoidents in this super food is a main reason spinach is the most popular “green smoothie” addition.  lutein and zeaxanthin are the potent antioxidents in it and play a big role in protecting your EYE sight – whoda thunk right?!  it’s also packed with vitamin c, beta-carotine and manganese.  all these antioxidants combined together help big time with your gastrointestinal health (which i struggle with) and can help lessen the risk of colon cancer.

along with kale, it’s great for your skin, vision and brain function because of the vitamin K.

the one thing i don’t love about spinach?! when you saute it and that HUGE mountain just seems to disappear in like 5 seconds of being heated! one time i took a timelapse video just for shits & giggles to watch it shrink.

i put ginger in everything.  if you’ve been “following” my journey for awhile you’ve heard me talk about my Sassy Water (i’ll do a re-post on that soon because yep, i still drink it every day).  i have a lot of digestion issues, and the digestion component of ginger is a game-changer for me.

along with helping aid digestion, it reduces inflammation which helps manage pain from arthritis, headaches and menstrual cramps.

it also has a warming affect that helps stimulate circulation, inhibits bacteria like salmonella and once absorbed in your intestinal tract it helps reduce gas (no such thing as TMI over here peeps). you’re welcome.

and because it’s an anti inflammatory, it helps prevent stomach ulcers caused by “wanna be” anti-inflammatory drugs like asprin and ibuprofen.  another reason i avoid over the counter meds and rely on my from-the-ground stuff.

the number one reason i eat these babies every single day are the anti-aging benefits built into the antixoidants of these guys.  i can’t say it enough, antioxidants are your best fwiend to keep you looking bright eyed and bushy tailed, at any age!  they help reverse damage done by toxins and free radicals and help protect your body against dangerous pathogens floating around the air and into your bloodstream.

blueberries are especially rich in proanthocyanidins, which have tons of anti-aging properties alone.  they also contain resveratrol which has been proven to reduce damage from over-sun exposure and can naturally darken your skin – no thanks!

because they’re packed with high amounts of phenols, specifically gallic acid, blubes are known as “neuro-protective agents” (say that 10 times fast).  these agents can literally protect our brains from degeneration and oxidative stress. WIN.

similar to ginger, these little buddies help regular your gastrointestinal track just by simply eating a few handfuls a day, since they’re a natural source of soluable and insoluable fiber.

being low in calories, low on the glycemic index and high in fiber, that alone is beneficial to weight loss in general.  since low glycemic index foods are absorbed more slowly, they stay in your digestive tract longer, which helps control hunger and delay hunger cues in general.

Amia Powder

every time i run out of one of my superfood powders, i do research for either a new brand or combination to try for my next. so this one is a new addition to my usual dry algea i’ve previously put in my smoothies.

this one in partcular is made from organic amla berry and spirulina. i’m a HUGE advocate for spirulina so when i saw it was made with that as the base and then amla berry with it, i knew it was a good one to give a go!

as the discription says on vitacost (where i got mine)

“amla is the most revered herb in ancient ayuvedic medicine.  it is naturally bitter, whole food source of true vitamin c and tannins”

now the other part is the spliruilna which i love love love and have talked about on here before.  spiriulina alone is packed with amino acids and the essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA) which has tons of anti-inflammatory properties.

Grass Green SuperFood

i’ve been using this for a long time.  i’m actually on my 3rd “tub” from this particular brand. so clearly i’m an advocate of this stuff as an extra boost to your smoothie.

as the description on vitacost notes (where i get mine)

“green superfood includes a full spectrum of alkalizing green superfoods, antioxidant rich fruits, and support herbs unite with acai and maca to provide a powerful dose of whole food nutrition. completely with pre & probiotics and digestive enzymes to ensure rapid nutrient absoprtion and healthy digestion.”

i mean.. ya’ll. get this stuff and your skin, insides and body can thank me lata!

again, i’m a huge fan of and you can grab all these micro-packed goodies from them!
