EASILY one of my frequently asked questions is why in the world do i drink ACV and lemon juice every single morning?! and what are the measurements and benefits of the shot?
if you follow me on Snapchat (TayloredFitness) you know i have a glass of this crazy duo every single morning! if i do miss a morning here or there my body absolutely knows and doesn’t like it.
the benefits of drinking Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon Juice are game-changers, ya’ll!
so this way it’s all in ONE place i’m going to break down how you can begin enjoying this morning shot and why you should even incorporate it in the first place!
let’s start with the benefits of each then i’ll explain the baby steps you need to take to start drinking this on a daily basis.
you know by now, i am my own human guinea pig and am constantly trying new all natural things to see what works and doesn’t work for my body, then share it with you all to benefit from!
first up, the Apple Cider Vinegar. this definitely has a taste of it’s ‘own’ and can be hard to swallow at first because of the ‘acquired’ flavor. but you will get used to it and when you read the benefits, you’ll suck it up and take it down!
Apple Cider Vinegar
weight loss: a dose of ACV can curb cravings and help reduce your appetite.
natural antibiotic properties: let’s say if you have a stomach ache, a little ACV with water can aid bad bacteria in the stomach.
proactive against indigestion: i have always dealt with major indigestion issues (thanks mom!) so this is the #1 reason i drink ACV (well #2, we will get there) because it helps prep your stomach before you eat any heavy foods that may otherwise be hard to digest properly.
energy boost: a shot of ACV is a great boost of energy before a workout or even after. ACV contains enzymes that can bring you a lift, which also (i haven’t tried this) i’ve read it can aide to a hangover because it helps relieve the build up of lactic acid in the body.
aid in allergy and colds: ACV is known to help with sinus drainage and even assist in preventing a cold coming on by killing germs when you first feel a tickle in your throat, take down a shot (or gargle) with some warm water.
teeth whitener: gargle some ACV to remove stains from your teeth, like right after your morning coffee. double win, it also is great for healthy gums and mouth in general since it’s a bacteria killer.
balances blood sugar levels: It helps control high blood sugar levels so it is often used as a natural way to aide and treat those with Diabetes.
keeps everything “moving”: THIS is the #1 reason i take ACV errrrry single morning! i’ve mentioned in the past, that i’ve spent my entire life dealing with chronic constipation (tmi, whateva!). i’ve gone to every doctor, tried every over the counter remedy, every oil, herb, you name it.. NOTHING works. i used to go days (literally like 5 days) without goin’ numero TWO, but ever since i’ve been RELIGIOUSLY taking my ACV in the morning, i’ve been pretty gosh darn regular, which says a lot for me! the days i don’t take it because i forget or am out of town, i’m all sorts of backed up for a few days. so ladies, if you deal with this same issue, i highly recommend making this a morning ritual for yourself too.
the taste of ACV, again, is a little hard to handle at first, but i’ll explain a little further down how to work your way into liking it.

Lemon Juice Benefits
reduces inflammation: if you drink lemon juice in water on a regular basis, it decreases the acidity in your body, which is where disease states occur. it also helps remove uric acid in your joins, which is one of the main causes of inflammation.
aids digestion: main reason i add lemon to my ACV shot! it not only encourages healthy digestion by loosening toxins in your digestive tract, it helps to relieve symptoms of indigestion such as heartburn, burping and bloating – which i deal with all 3 if i don’t take this shot every morning. so get to it ladies!
cleanses your system: it helps flush out the toxins in your body by enhancing enzyme function, stimulating your liver.
helps keep your skin blemish-free: the antioxidants in lemon juice help to not only decrease blemishes, but wrinkles too! it can also be applied to scars and age spots to reduce their appearance, and because it’s detoxifying your blood, it will maintain your skin’s radiance. winning all over women!
gives your immune system a boost: vitamin c is like our immune system’s jumper cables, and lemon juice is full of it! the level of vitamin C in your system is one of the first things to plummet when you’re stressed, which is why experts recommend popping extra vitamin C during stressful days or when you feel a cold coming on.
excellent source of potassium: lemons are high in potassium which is good for heart health as well as brain and nerve function! another one of the main reasons i make sure to get it in right away in the morning.
gives you an energy boost: it helps provide your body with energy when it enters your digestive tract and can help reduce anxiety and depression, even the scent of lemons has a calming effect on your nervous system!
helps fight viral infections: lemon is easily the most effective way to diminish viral infections and their subsequent sore throats. plus, with the lemon juice also boosting your immune system like i mentioned before, you’ll simultaneously fight off the infection completely!
so at this point, if you aren’t convinced of why you should be taking a shot of ACV and Lemon Juice every single morning, then i don’t know what to tell ya!
the main reasons i take it in the morning, on an empty stomach, are to help prevent indigestion, keep everything moving and the energy boost! the rest of the benefits are just an added bonus in my book!
here’s what you need to begin:
If you’re starting out, here’s the amounts of each i recommend you start off with:
1 tbsp ACV
since the ACV is an acquired taste it’s hard to take down your first couple times because of it’s bitterness, but i promise with consistency you’ll get used to it! i now enjoy the taste of it!
and at first, it can be a little rough on the throat if you take more than the 1 tbsp for your first couple days/weeks, so baby steps!
where you WANT to be eventually with it:
3 tbsp ACV
a splash of Lemon Juice (like 1/2 tbsp)
water (however much)
you want to have LOTS of the ACV, as much as you can handle, eventually. that’s what keeps everything “moving” and the benefits increase.
i get asked a lot of one should take it on an empty stomach or after they eat breakfast. i personally like to take it on an empty stomach, before breakfast.
BUT if you workout in the morning, don’t take it before you workout if it’s on an empty stomach because it’ll make you a weeeee bit nauseous. take the shot after you workout, even if you’ve had food, you’ll still reap the benefits!
