I’ve shared how important what you put ON your body is just as important as what you put into it. it’s easy to take care of ourselves internally by avoiding GMO foods and incorporating an organic and non-gmo eating habit along with decreasing the amount of processed sugars when ingest. But why stop there?! that is why for the past 5 plus years I’ve slowly switched all my beauty and body products, along with home cleaning products, to all natural, DIY, make it at home, etc. instead!
A lot of people find it intimidating to make your own products at home because they’re afraid to mess it up and it won’t turn out like the original products is intended to. Like DIY deodorant, you’re afraid if you mess it up well…. You get my drift!
But truly, when it comes to creating products to keep our skin and body healthy, happy and clean it is much easier than you think!!
I’ve shared how easy it is to make the all-natural anti-acne astringent I use, the oil I put on my face, body scrubs, body lotions and tons more! And to think they only each have a few ingredients, you cannot escape that ladies!
have you actually taken a few minutes before slathering your body with cream, to see what exactly you’re putting on it? flip that bottle over.. take a peek..
see that 3 inch long list?! YIKES! No thanks!
Another one that gets easy tarnished and unnecessary ingredients added into.. that is probably the most crucial to really look the list because you can accidently digest it…
Hello glycerin and fluoride! Adios, actually!
Yeah yeah, there’s tons of all-natural brands out there, but as the demand for them increases, the companies have actually changes the sources they get their ‘clean’ ingredients from in order to save a buck or two.
You may be a little taken aback with this recipe at first..because it’s not your conventional over-the-counter mouth scrubber you’re used to..
Because it’s powder!
One of the main ingredients, and one that I use on my face, to help with digestion, and many other home-remedies is bentonite clay!
Bentonite clay is seriously rich in vital minerals that are beneficial for our teeth and gums, like calcium and potassium, it is also a fantastic non-toxic and not to mention very affordable for a big tub that lasts FOREVER it seems.
The gray powdered clay has been used for hundreds and hundreds of years to detoxify the body, so much that when it is consumed it literally absorbs the toxins and in return (hello numero-2!) eliminates them. So when you toss this in your mouth as a tooth paste beneficiary, its mild abrasive texture gently scrubs and polishes our teeth, WHILE getting toxins together and tossing them out with each spit. Oh and to top it off?! Due to the high mineral content of the clay it has the ability to actually mineralize our teeth and HEAL decay.
Next up on the list? Activated Charcoal.
not only take this on a daily basis, but toss it in with my tooth paste mix for its whitening factor! It helps whiten those pearly whites that may be not so pearly any more due to too much coffee and wine (hi!) by absorbing plaque and microscopic tidbits that stain teeth. So say hello to your new cost-effective and healthy way to when those chompers and adios to those $50+ teeth strips you agonize wearing.
Himalayan Salt is the little ingredient up next that packs a punch! Salt in your teeth?! Say wahhh?! The pink little crystals help battle bad breath and draw out pathogens which kill bad bacteria (aka halitosis).
Baking Soda and peppermint extract to top it off! Baking soda, we all know is the #1 cleaning agent and yep, you can put it right into your mouth! The peppermint, because who doesn’t love that refreshing taste after you scrub away the day’s food or prep for the day ahead of talking closely with people?!
This ladies… is why I make my own tooth paste.
So let’s get down to business, shall we?!
DIY Teeth Whitening & Mineralizing Tooth Paste
4 tbsp Bentonite Clay
8 capsules of Activated Charcoal (or buy straight powder)
1 tbsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Himalayan Salt
1 tsp Peppermint Extract
Small air-tight glass jelly jar (which is why I love using jelly jars for everything I make at home!)
Step 1: pour in that bentonite clay
Be ready for the next step, because your fingers are going to get messy!
Pop open the activated charcoal capsules and dup them right in.
Followed by the baking soda
Peppermint (any flavor will do!)
Then give it a good swirl with your fork, to evenly distribute the oil and the powders.
