as i mentioned in this post, i make 99% of my beauty, home and other household products.
i love knowing what’s going on my body and having control of exactly what i do put on it and adjust things accordingly to match with my skin, hair, all that fun stuff. that way i’m really keeping my skin happy on a customized level!
plus, i can never say it enough, how many CHEMICALS are in everything from tooth paste to your face lotion.
and that shit literally SEEPS into your skin, and down to your core. yikes.
if that doesn’t give you the heeby jeebys i don’t know what does.
i got lots of good feedback from the lip scrub i shared, so i’m definitely planning on lots more DIY recipes for body/beauty products!
so today i want to share with you my favorite face exfoliator.
i by no means have perfect skin. i’ve been battling oily, combination, adult-acne breakouts for YEARS. i’ve tried everything, every brand out there, all of it.
when i started using oils and making my own stuff, for about a year now, it’s made a MAJOR difference on my skin and i’ve had less break outs and my skin seems to be pretty consistent; not too oily and not too dry.
so this exfoliator is for the fellow adult, or anyone, who deals with breakouts and i just love it!
if you haven’t jumped on the oil cleansing bandwagon, you definitely need to. i know i know, the idea of putting OIL on your OILY skin just sounds cray.
but it’s not. because the more you try to dry out your oily skin and acne prone skin, the more it tries to overcompensate by producing MORE oil. thus more breakouts.
so ya gotta find that happy medium.
first by tossing out all that over the counter acne medications, face washes, lotions and potions and just start FRESH.
by making THIS heaven in a jar:
Tea Tree Coconut Exfoliator
an air-tight jar, which i use these because they’re the perfect size for lots of my “recipes”
fyi, i use tea tree oil specifically because it is a natural antimicrobial oil, in other words it kills bacteria which causes acne, but without all those harsh synthetic chemicals like most acne medicines/potions have.
ok back to the fun part!
step 1: combine all ingredients in a bowl, then stir stir stir!
when thoroughly combined, spoon into a jelly jar or any sort of airtight jar.
make sure to label your jar so you remember what’s in it!
when ready to use, scoop a little bit out, about 1 tbsp i would say, and massage into your face with circular motions for 30 seconds. avoid your hairline so it doesn’t get greasy. Rinse face and pat dry. The oil will absorb immediately and you’ll be left with a buttery soft, sweet-smelling face! i use it every evening after washing my face with either my black soap or home made face wash, then scrub away with this mixture so the oil stays on to do it’s job. since it’s in an airtight jar, i usually just leave it in the shower so i remember to use it up! right beside my lip scrub.
i want to end with a quick overview: coconut oil is a carrier oil and very moisturizing which is why i pair with the anti-bacteria components of tea tree oil. just make sure when you first start to use this exfoliator, or oils in general on your face, rinse your face well afterwards, and pat dry your face to get a little of the layer off. then eventually you won’t really need to wash your face well after, just a good rinse and a pat dry because your skin will get used the oil over time.
it’s trial and error, but give it a few weeks for your skin to adjust and you’ll eventually be slathering the this oil all over your body! which i’ll be sharing all my other coconut oil incorporated leave-on beauty products.
